I went to an Obervance today at the Daley Center in Chicago. It was very touching. It was a beautiful and somber day. We are a nation that forgets easily. I don’t know if that is a good thing or a bad thing. Today, a friend of mine told me that he wishes the events from a year ago weren’t so prominent in the media on this particular day. He said that it makes him sad to be reminded. On the contrary, I think that we should all be reminded. We should be reminded that life can be extinguished in a heartbeat. We should be reminded to be more compassionate and understanding. We should be reminded to stand firmly behind what we believe in. But most of all, we should be reminded to cherish each day as if it were our last.
